These are photos of the Incan archeological site of Moray. It is located approximately 50km (31 miles) NW of Cuzco in Peru. It consists of several enormous terraced circular depressions featuring a sophisticated irrigation system and a depth and orientation which creates a temperature difference up to 15° C (27°F).

This makes me wonder if something of a modern adaptation of this could be used in the mountains of the U.S.
